Kind Words (recommendations)

As an author of inspirational articles, I'd written my most deeply personal offering yet. Due to a medical mishap, I was battling body image changes and felt fearful and vulnerable on many levels. Then a magazine assigned Scott Goldsmith, a total stranger, to photograph and videotape me. My guard went up.
I quickly discovered he was just like me. A storyteller. A storyteller who happened to communicate with a camera.
I would soon learn, however, that Scott's primary tool was the powerful instrument of self. Empathy. Warmth. The magic of rapport with everyone he encountered. His amazing expertise notwithstanding, he used these inner qualities to integrate the heart and science of his chosen medium.
Scott's genuine human kindness crumbled my armor.
Since that day, Scott has recorded other images of me as well as others whose lived experiences I have been privileged to portray. Using a camera in lieu of a brush, Scott is the consummate artist. He never fails to create a lifelong memory for his subjects or to evoke a myriad of powerful emotions in the reader. He communicates a person's story as if it is the only one they will ever tell.
Scott is a relentless pursuer of beauty in the ordinary moments of life. In my four decades as a writer of many genres, I have worked with numerous wonderful photographers. But never one who comes close to Scott.

Scott Goldsmith produces some of the most intelligent photography made today.
He brings great insight into every project he tackles, regardless of how complicated the subject matter may be.
I worked closely with Scott for about ten years and learned a great deal from him.

I met Scott at a local town planning meeting. I was struck by his warmth, sincerity, down-to-earth spirit, funny Midwest humor, and desire to use his talents to help our little town grow. He had great ideas. Since I wanted to start my own photography career, I Googled him and was FLOORED to discover Scott's incredible global travel and work displayed on many national magazine covers.
His personal projects show the kind of man Scott is. His images have a depth of life, stillness of a moment and are rich with compassion.
His work shows his ability to be quiet and unassuming around those being photographed, and for them to feel completely comfortable he's there, or not even notice him as he is always ready and looking to capture a special image to convey a feeling of the time and story.
He continues to create amazing imagery, moves hearts with beauty in his work, and finds time to help others whenever he can. You will be elated working with Scott.
